New infectious pop song ‘This Is What You Get’ from Linah Is

Dance-pop diva Linah Is is our current guilty pleasure here on Devil Horns. A DIY artist, she writes, produces and performs all her own stuff. Her new single ‘This is What You Get’ is ridiculous amount of catchiness, set to some bouncy pianos and groovy bass.

On top of her fun sound, she has a unique image – a crazy hairdo that’s sure to set her apart from her contemporaries. She’s an exciting singer with the world at her feet.

With support from Status Quo to 10cc, pop/rock band W.A.L.E. are proving to be The Netherland’s finest

“Dynamic arrangements and Beatles/ Sgt. Pepper vibe”

– Detroit Live Magazine –

With the release of their 4th studio album ‘Come Together’ and positive feedback from fans  in their home country The Netherlands and in the US, W.A.L.E. are a band who merge years of experience with a fresh attitude to songwriting.

With contributions from 10cc’s Mick Wilson and acclaimed lead guitarist Tony Hallinan, the album is a well rounded piece of pop perfection. Taking on influences from Tom Petty to Bad Company, Dutch founding members Harry de Waij and Joos van Leeuwen deliver both professionalism as well as an outstanding talent to compose catchy tracks.

The album kicks off with their upcoming single  ‘Not like another day’, a catchy classic rock track with an element of pop. This song invites the listener to step out of an ordinary life. Written  a while back in 2002, Harry explains the song is about “opening your eyes, believing in yourself and look at your world in different way.”

Listen here:

W.A.L.E. is a project that came about as a result of dealing with personal loss. Impelled by the passing of one of his friends, Harry recorded his first album. His friend, who used to be a drummer, was initially planning on recording together with Harry. When illness got in the way, Harry decided to make his first record as a tribute to him. It was then he met the musician and producer Joos in a studio in Amsterdam.

Well-known for his work in The Netherlands, Joos teamed up with Harry to form their band in 2000 which, at that time, went under the name The Early Grey Band. They eventually changed the name to W.A.L.E which is a play on words of the founding members’ last names w de WAij and van LEeuwen.

In 2005, W.A.L.E. embarked on their American tour as Early Grey band, playing in cities like Chicago, Detroit or Madison.

W.A.L.E. are a band that is full of potential. With fans including Status Quo’s Francis Rossi  who owns one of their CDs, the band has certainly managed to achieve a fair degree of recognition.  W.A.L.E. have also reached out to legends such as Iggy Pop or Jimmy Page who also own one of their previous records. With ‘Come Together’ they are now ready to roll on to the UK and beyond.

The single ‘Not like another day’ is out on 9th May

Pink Fireball – Turn Around

With one of the coolest videos I’ve seen for a long time, Pink Fireball‘s latest single ‘Turn Around’ is a great introduction to the band. The Paris based band have an incredible flair for song writing, flowing psychedelic aspects from the 60s and a strong indie foundation.

‘Turn Around’ has set a high bar for the band, who are in the process of recording an album in London this year. Hopefully the rest of the album will seamlessly blend the old with the new, these guys have a lot of potential and most definitely deserve a wider exclaim.

The single is set to be released tomorrow as a digital download, and it’s left me wanting more from this band asap.
