Debut Album from Skinn

After supporting Fuse ODG and Wande Coal, Skinn embraces his own creativity with upcoming album ‘ Rêves’

Having come a long way chasing his art, Skinn has managed to break out of an educational cycle that made him struggle with his creative freedom. He has now reinvented himself by following his instincts and devoting his life to his art by creating some extremely captivating Afrobeat songs.

With his upcoming project ‘Rêves’ the first of a trilogy collection, Skinn is touching upon influences from Nigerian singer songwriters such as D’banj and Wizkid while ultimately making his own very unique Afrobeat sound. His song ‘The Year’ is underpinned by an enticing, as well as melancholic mood emphasised by a powerfully moving beat and reflective lyrics.

The video will be released soon but in the mean time take a listen to the upbeat track ‘Menu’ from the album.

Also on the album is track ‘Enemies’, a record that draws a lot upon Skinn’s feelings and his take on humanity. The singer explains: “My LP was hugely influenced by my emotions at the time. While I was recording the album I had a lot of high and low points. So my mood was really about the place I was in. Eventually, I found my rhythm and found the strength to show my creative side.” To Skinn, recording ‘Rêves’ turned out to be a healing process for his inner turbulences. The method he applied for recording was ultimately a mirror to him that reflected his life in general: “It made me find the balance as a human and as a creative. Allowing me to experiment with sounds in more than one way really showed me that there is an alternative in life.“

Still at the early stages of his career, Skinn’s music has already been well received among the Nigerian online community and “Menu” was premiered in radio stations in Nigeria like Beat FM.  Skinn has already shared stages with well-known names in the Afro-beat scene ranging from Fuse ODG to Sean Tizzle and Wande Coal.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Skinn’s childhood was quite uncommon. He moved from Lagos to Abuja the Nigerian capital whilst attaining O’level education at a military school. Co-incidentally this was the same school that Afrobeat artist D’banj had attended in the past. Having an exceptionally hard time at the military school, Skinn remembers: “Whilst I was there I was bought my first music CD by Chamillionaire and that settled it. I decided to be an entertainer.”  The singer eventually moved to South East England where he finally stepped into the zone of almost complete creative freedom…

It wasn’t as bad Skinn says “Before I started making music professionally. I would always stay up all night recording music off my phone and the next day I’ll get a noise caution from dad and that was it. Right now, although it’s hard for them take art as more than just leisure, they can understand and support me. I guess you can say I always tried to do what I wanted.”

He is now tirelessly working with RDP, the creative collective behind the project. His determination and work ethic has certainly helped him develop his sound and contributed to the fact that he has managed to perfect both his song writing and his creative process. Skinn will prove to be an all-rounder when it comes to the creation of great songs.

HELSTAR just signed with MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson‘s EMP Label Group.

Vampiro” is “another opus of tales of Dracula and vampires, like the band’s all-time most acclaimed 1989 release ‘Nosferatu‘.”

HELSTAR‘s last studio album, “This Wicked Nest“, came out in April 2014 via AFM Records.

Formed in Houston in the early ’80s, HELSTAR cut its teeth playing backyard parties and small club gigs. It soon became apparent that HELSTAR had much more to offer then its contemporaries. Combat Records snapped up the band and released HELSTAR‘s debut, “Burning Star“, in 1984. Next came “Remnants of War“, followed by HELSTAR‘s breakthrough album, “A Distant Thunder“, in 1988. Berlin’s black metal outfit Sun Worship will release their new brutal album “Pale Dawn” on May 6, 2016 via Golden Antenna Records.

Now this is worthy of Devil Horns!

Artist: Sun Worship
Title: Pale Dawn
Format: CD, limited LP, Digital
Label: Golden Antenna Records
Distribution: Broken Silence
Genre: Black Metal
Release Date: 06/05/2016

“Music is just notes. What you speculate beyond that, is pure non- sense.” -Igor Stravinsky

May 2016 sees the release of the much anticipated follow-up to Elder Giants, the debut album by Berlin /Germany based band Sun Worship. Originally meant as digital and limited tape release only, Elder Giants quickly garnered worldwide praise for its successful amalgamation of older Scandinavian and newer North American black metal styles, and has recently been repressed on vinyl for the 4th time.

Following up European tours with artists such as Unru, Ultha and N as well as festival appearances at Roadburn, Incubate, O Tannenbaum Waldfest, CTM and H2Ö, Sun Worship entered Golden Retriever Studios in Berlin with Henner Henzler (of Tonmeisterei fame) on January 1st 2016 to record their second full length album. Pale Dawn further explores the more extreme fringes of their previous material while retaining the bands trademark harsh melodic ferocity, atmosphere, and momentum, charged by exceptionally frantic yet organic and musical drumming which acts as an equal instrument alongside the dual guitars and vocals.

If the underlying subjects of Elder Giants were the Earth and our solar system, Pale Dawn rears its head to gaze into the fatal beauty of the cosmos beyond, conceptually referencing kosmische Musik and the Berlin School of electronic music, manifesting the influence of Manuel Göttsching as being as important for the band as Mayhem, Mount Eerie, and Moondog. Musically both more accessible and hermetic, more minimalist and complex at the same time than its predecessor, Pale Dawn sees Sun Worship confidently exploring new levels of an intense musical expression which increasingly becomes their own.

The intentionally unpolished and dynamic recording was mastered
at Enormous Door, while the exquisite artwork, design and packaging (the 180g vinyl edition comes in a heavyweight old school tip-on sleeve with foil print) was once more expertly taken care of by Raoul Mazzero aka View From The Coffin.

The Breaking Pattern revitalise emo rock on spectacular new album, ‘There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins’

The face of the Phoenix emo revival movement’ – The Huffington Post

Arizona indie rock group, The Breaking Pattern, are bringing a fresh new sound to the emo scene on their debut album There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins. Anthemic vocals and reverb-soaked guitars make for a euphoric and equally lovelorn summery sound.

The band cite emo and pop-punk acts such as Real Friends, The Wonder Years, Man Overboard and The Hotelier as influences. Fellow Arizona indie rockers Lydia have offered the band much support, their guitarist Justin Camacho even co-writing songs with the band in the past.

The album lyrically tackles the hurdles of a failing relationship. The band’s frontman explains: ‘The album is somewhat of a break-up album, chronicling the various stages of a doomed relationship from the moments leading up to the split until the resolution and recovery. I say “somewhat” because it is not a concept album. The songs do not tell one specific story, but are a compilation of personal experience and the stories I’ve witnessed from friends who had their own hearts disintegrated into red dust.

Producer Cory Spotts engineers the record, having worked with other esteemed Arizona acts including The Maine, The Summer Set, BlessTheFall and Job for a Cowboy.

Within the first few months of their formation, the band opened for celebrated acts such as Emarosa, This Century, Weatherbox and The Rocket Summer. They have since sold out multiple shows.

Vocalist Derek Hackman previously fronted a band called Ezer. Having long had a passion for music, he began writing songs aged 11. Moving house frequently as a child, Derek dealt with long periods of social isolation that fuelled his songwriting. The first time he ever sang live was at his high school graduation – in front of 6000 people. He was so nervous he vomited in the bathroom only minutes prior to going up on stage.

Derek is also a published poet and has a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Making up the band’s other members include drummer Brandon (who also handles a lot of the photography), guitarist Nick (who happens to also be an award-winning coffee roaster) and bassist Jacob (who is Columbian and fluent in Spanish).

There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins is out April 8th.

Whacky funk-rock single ‘Would You’ from Dubai-based artist Bull Funk Zoo

BFZ_LOGODubai-based artist, Assaad Lakkis (aka Bull Funk Zoo), has released this bluesy, screwball funk-rock track, sure to appeal to fans of avant-garde musicians like Frank Zappa and Tom Waits. His snarling vocals are reminiscent of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, whilst the groove borrows from bands like The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Trippy effects and unique style of guitar playing contribute to a sound that’s very fresh and exciting.

Already enjoying success in the Middle East, the one-man-band is now looking to go global. The single is out officially on April 29th.

Japanese Fighting Fish are ‘Swimming with Piranhas’ in their new savage release!

Japanese Fighting Fish, four lads who anchor their boat in London, are bringing fun back to rock with their electrifying new album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’, plunging us knee-deep into ferocious riffs then pulling us out again with soaring vocals from frontman Karlost.

‘Swimming with Piranhas’ doesn’t sound like a great plan for the average diver but Japanese Fighting Fish jump right in and live to tell the tale. This album nibbles away at any possible preconceptions of the band until an epic creature with an unnerving undercurrent is left. The album title comes from the real life wild experiences of Karlost and drummer Sweetman in Ecuador whilst staying with a Quechan tribe when they took a dip in the Amazon River. After their excursion, the boys did a Lep Zep III move and retreated to the countryside to channel all they had learnt from the ‘tribal way of life’ into creating an exhilarating thrill-ride record that bites hard and won’t let you go.

Their latest single from it, ‘For Queen Marilyn’, was written spontaneously after arriving at the recording studio and being asked to ‘just play something’ to check sound levels. An ominous Muse-like riff was quickly followed by crashing drums before the whole thing took off into a grunge explosion. Unwittingly, the Queen was born! After several stages of development, the new track is now available on SoundCloud here!

Promo Artwork - Swimming with Piranhas

‘Swimming with Piranhas’ is the band’s third album but the first with Matt McGuinness completing the troop. The album explores new depths with pounding bass lines, incredible drums, and Gareth Mochizuki Ellmer’s pedal board creating the ‘biggest space sounds at just the right time’, according to Karlost, whose own vocal performance is gritty and wild yet captivating throughout.

What do Royal Blood, Savages, and Cage the Elephant all have in common? They were all supported by BBC Introducing! And now Japanese Fighting Fish have joined that stairway there is no doubt they are destined for the heights. One of their next steps will be headlining the venue Milo at the Live at Leeds Festival 2016 and with their sets being renowned for explosive antics and the boys having a habit for ending up accidentally bleeding on stage, this will definitely be a spectacle not be missed.

‘For Queen Marilyn’ will be available on the 3rd June, followed by the album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’ due for release on the 17th June 2016.
