JUSTIN HAWKINS OF THE DARKNESS THINKS JON BON JOVI SHOULD STOP SINGING… NOW

THE DARKNESS FRONTMAN JUSTIN HAWKINS HAS EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER THE LEGENDARY SINGERS DETERIORATING VOCALS, SUGGEST THING “PEOPLE AROUND HIM NEED TO TELL HIM TO STOP”

We’ve all seen them haven’t we? The clips doing the rounds on social media of Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘slightly’ under par recent performances. And spandex wearing, guitar slinging, modern king of falsetto vocals Justin Hawkins has given his thoughts on the matter.

In recent years, Justin has become one of the more unexpected voices of reason in the often-sensationalised world of rock. Hawkins serves up regular nuggets of rock and roll wisdom via his hugely popular and utterly brilliant YouTube channel Justin Hawkins Rides Again.

Speaking in a recent video on his channel, Hawkins has offered constructive and empathetic criticism to Mr. Bon Jovi. Hawkins tries to offer an explanation as to why JBJ’s vocals – which have generally been very impressive – have been lacking of late.

After speculating, Hawkins concludes that in his opinion JBJ should take a break, and believes that JBJ is currently not able to give his audiences “what they deserve.”

Hawkins explains that “My career is not as long as Jon Bon Jovi’s, and not as big as well. Even at the level that we’ve experienced, if you’re in a situation like that and you can’t deliver the goods and you can’t give your audience what they deserve, that’s horrible — it’s a horrible feeling — and you don’t enjoy touring in that condition; you just wanna go home,”

“And I expect he’s feeling the same way, really. But there must be a huge machine around Bon Jovi that stops him from being able to pull the plug on it, really, which is what needs to happen, I think. I mean, I’m not talking about pull the plug forever.”

“It’s not fun to watch this and it isn’t fun to regard one of the greats. He’s a great singer — he always has been — but this sounds like something is eating away at him from the inside. And I don’t think it’s a voice injury; I think it’s more of something like a manifestation of performance anxiety that’s stopping him from delivering his trademark Gale Force 10 mega vocal that you need on these huge tracks, these anthemic mega hits. And I feel like the people around him need to tell him to stop.”

Certainly some interesting points made by The Darkness frontman. Jon Bon Jovi has one of the all time greatest voices in rock, and truly it is sad to see him not performing to the high standards that we all know he can. Perhaps Justin is right, and JBJ should take some much needed time off to rest, recover and recharge. But Bon Jovi is a multi million dollar act, and cancelling shows would take a huge toll on the pockets and the mental state of many people.

Purely from a fans point of view, I hope Jon Bon Jovi takes the time he needs to recover, and I hope we see him performing back to his best again soon.

JUDAS PRIEST FINALLY WILL BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

THE METAL GODS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED AS INDUCTEES INTO THIS YEAR’S ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ALONGSIDE EMINEM, DURAN DURAN AND DOLLY PARTON

23 years after they first became eligible, Judas Priest will finally be inducted into the hallowed halls of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

On Nov 5th, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the metal legends will receive the Musical Excellence Award.

The band made a statement via social media claiming “Judas priest are thrilled and honoured to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2022.” They go on to say that “This is also a great moment for British heavy metal, metal worldwide and our amazing fans who support us and keep flying the flag for metal and Judas Priest!”

This is a statement that we wholeheartedly agree with! This is a great moment for metal music, and one that is LONG overdue.

Priest join Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar, Lionel Ritchie and Carly Simon as this year’s inductees and recipients of the Musical Excellence Awards. Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will also receive the awards.

Which Priest members will attend the ceremony remains a mystery. Former guitarist K.K. Downing and drummers Dave Holland and Les Binks are all eligible for induction, and whilst Holland sadly died in 2018, speculation and rumours are rising that Downing and Binks could join the current line-up at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Downing has been engaged in a long standing war or words with his former bandmates, and this reached fever pitch when he wasn’t asked to re-join Priest after guitarist Glenn Tiptop was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in early 2018.

Speaking to EonMusic in November when the nominees for the R&RHOF were first announced,  Downing said “I thought about it briefly [joining Judas Priest at the ceremony], when we were nominated, what would happen. But like I say, it’s November and a lot of things can happen between now and then, especially with men of an age like us… I think it’s just a question of seeing how everything lies when it comes to them, really, because a lot of things can happen between now and then; a lot of things could get better, but they could get worse, or stay the same, you never know, do you?”

Whether we will see a Judas Priest reunion at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony remains to be seen. I personally have all my fingers and toes crossed that they can set aside their differences for one night and give us fans one final earth shattering performance, in the way that only the metal gods can.

Priest will become one of only a handful of metal bands inducted into the hallowed halls, joining Metallica and Black Sabbath. This accolade is well deserved and long overdue, and perhaps we will soon be seeing another little British metal band by the name of Iron Maiden being welcomed into the R&RHOF too.

MICK JAGGER PICKS HIS MODERN ROCK MUSIC SAVIOURS, AND THEY’RE SURE TO SURPRISE YOU

THE ROLLING STONES LEGEND HAS CREDITED AN OPINION DIVIDING PAIR OF POP-PUNK SINGERS WITH KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF ROCK MUSIC ALIVE

Speaking with Swedish radio station P4, the Rolling Stones singer, hip shaker and all round music legend has bemoaned the lack of rockers in recent years. However, two artists have caught his attention: Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud.

Jagger stated that “In rock music you need energy and there have not been a lot of new rock singers around. Now there are a few. You have Yungblud and Machine Gun Kelly. That kind of post-punk vibe makes me thing there is still a bit of life in rock and roll”… Someone get Mick an Airbourne CD ASAP!

Yungblud has previously name-checked Jagger as a big inspiration and a role model, and stated that the longevity of The Rolling Stones career is what he strives to also achieve, hoping to be “sexy as fuck” like Mick after a long career.

The Rolling Stones have a long history of championing up-and-coming acts of the decades, and regularly recruit both established and lesser known/emerging acts to open their shows. Some of the acts given the opportunity to open for them include The 1975, Ed Sheeran, Kayne West, Maneskin and Black Pumas, amongst many others.

The band will be heading out on their 60th anniversary tour of Europe this summer, but Jagger has stated that they are still showing no signs of slowing down. He told P4 radio that “I am not planning it to be the last tour. I love being on tour,” which is great news for rock fans around the globe.

He went on to say “I don’t think I would do it if I did not enjoy it. I enjoy going out there on stage and doing my stuff. That is what I do. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and forget the troubles in their lives for a couple of hours and just chill out and have a great afternoon and evening.”

So there we have it. The Rolling Stones won’t be stopping any time soon, and we have our fingers crossed and will be praying to the gods of rock and roll that Mick considers offering the opening slot to one of the many incredible up and coming rock bands that the world has to offer. Away from the mainstream, there is an incredible wealth of rock bands that are ready and waiting to fill the void when these legends face their final curtain, and I for one just hope they get to opportunities to get their hands on the torch that will eventually need to be passed down.

DEF LEPPARD RELEASE MASSIVE NEW SINGLE ‘TAKE WHAT YOU WANT’

THE ROCK LEGENDS HAVE SHARED THE SECOND SINGLE FROM THEIR FORTHCOMING ALBUM ‘DIAMOND STAR HALOS’

Rock titans and kings of Sheffield Def Leppard have released a brand-new single Take What You Want. The track is the second song to be released from their forthcoming twelfth (!) studio album Diamond Star Halos. Rock fans can look forwards to listening to the whole album on May 27th.

Following the previously released track Kick, is new single Take What You Want. Opening in typical Def Leppard style, we are treated to a Sweet influenced, melodic guitar intro, before a pounding riff crashes the party! The track continues with Joe Elliot sounding back to his best, and this is most evident on the sing-a-long, anthemic chorus. Viv Campbell and Phil Collin trade blows in an epic guitar duelling solo, but the true highlight is during the outro, when we hear the band with the greatest backing vocals of all time, belt out some of the finest “Woah Oh Oh’s” in recent recorded memory.

The full album Diamond Star Halos is compromised of 15 tracks, and will be the first new studio release from the rock titans since their 2015 self-titled collection. There are also notable collaborations on the album, with singing sensation Alison Krauss appearing on two songs, and longtime David Bowie and Michael Tinholme pianist Mike Garson also appearing on two tracks.

Following the album’s release, Leppard will finally embark on their long-delayed US stadium tour, where they will be co-headlining alongside the recently reformed (in 2020) Motley Crue.

You can listen to Take What You Want right now, and pre-orders for Diamond Star Halos are available via the official Def Leppard website.

MACHINE HEAD RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE’ AND ANNOUNCE NEW ANIME INSPIRED ALBUM

ROBB FLYNN AND CO HAVE ANNOUNCED THEIR RETURN WITH THEIR “HEAVIEST” ALBUM IN YEARS

Machine Head have announced released their new single CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE, the first from their new album ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN.

The 13-track album is due to be released on August 26th 2022, and according to the band it’s a concept album based around two rival characters, Ares and Eros, both of whom go on a killing spree as a result of losing someone close to them. The band have said that the album is “set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is stained crimson red.” Certainly sounds intriguing to us!

Frontman Robb Flynn says the album was influenced by the Japanese anime series Attack On Titan, which he was introduced to by his teenage sons.

According to Flynn, the album’s concept was loosely inspired by the series in the sense that in the storyline, there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ guy – both characters believe they’re doing the right thing as it applies to their being. But in true metal fashion, both are committing acts of pure atrocity and evil.

The band are claiming that it’s the heaviest they’ve sounded for a long while, and judging from the first single CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE, they’re absolutely right. If the rest of the album continues in a similar manor to the aforementioned first single, then ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN could be our favourite Machine Head album since the metal colossus that is The Blackening.

The album will be available on 12 different vinyl formats, a deluxe vinyl box set with bonus tracks, CD in assorted types of packaging and multi-coloured cassette options.

Machine Head: CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE tracklisting

1. SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR
2. CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE
3. BECØME THE FIRESTØRM
4. ØVERDØSE
5. MY HANDS ARE EMPTY
6. UNHALLØWED
7. ASSIMILATE
8. KILL THY ENEMIES
9. NØ GØDS, NØ MASTERS
10. BLØØDSHØT
11. RØTTEN
12. TERMINUS

VOCALIST MIKE KERR HAS SADLY TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID AND LOST HIS VOICE COMPLETELY

In sad news, Royal Blood have announced that they have been forced to postpone the remainder of the shows on their UK tour. This is due to vocalist Mike Kerr testing positive. He has also lost his voice completely.

In a statement posted via the bands official social media accounted, Mike wroke:

“I’m heartbroken to write this, but despite being fully protected and taking precautions, I have tested positive for COVID following last night’s show at The O2 Arena.

This morning I’ve woken up to discover I have lost my voice. Unfortunately, this isn’t something I can ‘power through’, I currently cannot sing a single note. My voice is gone.

I’m absolutely gutted. We were having the time of our lives up there, and your support and passion is not taken for granted for one second.

I’m so sorry to advise that I cannot continue the tour and want to apologise for the huge disappointment and inconvenience this will cause you all. We will work as hard as we can to reschedule the shows for as soon as possible.

Mike x”

The band’s most recent single ‘Honeybrains’

By all accounts, the band were absolutely on fire on this tour, and the news is sure to devastate fans with tickets to the remaining shows. We are living in strange times, with restrictions all but removed, but cases rising, sadly we are not clear of shows regularly being cancelled through COVID related issues.

The effected show are:

03/04/22 – Glasgow SSE Hydro

Download Festival Adds 14 More Names To Line-Up Adding to an already stellar line-up

The legendary Donnington-based festival has added another 14 more strong acts to the bill.

Skindred, Red Fang and Dirty Honey are amongst the 14 new acts that will be joining the headliners KISS, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro at Download 2022. The festival will of course be taking place on the hallowed Donnington Racecourse grounds from June 10-12.

Perhaps the most exciting edition for keen festival goers will be festival favourites Skindred. The Welsh ragga-punk-metallers will be bringing another of their incredible performances to the Download mainstage. Get your t-shirts ready, as the Newport Helicopter is sure to be let loose on the expecting Donnington audience.

The full list of new acts announced is as follows; Alestorm, Banks Arcade, Bimini, Dana Dentata, Dirty Honey, Heriot, Kid Brunswick, Orbit Culture, Red Fang, Skindred, SKYND, The Velveteers, Will Haven and YONAKA.

As well as the previously mentioned headliners, the new additions will be joining the likes of Deftones, Shinedown, Steel Panther, Megadeth, The Distillers, Airbourne and so many more!

With a line-up this strong, and the fact that 2022 is on course to be a true return to normality for festival goers like myself, I’m left with only one thing to say. See you in the pit!

Devil Horns News: DOLLY PARTON TO RELEASE ROCK ALBUM…if she is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Everyone’s favorite country icon has announced that if she is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, she will release a rock album to celebrate. Although this shouldn’t come as any huge surprise to her diehard fans, as she has previously performed covers of classic rock songs by the likes of Bon Jovi & Led Zeppelin.

This news comes after the ‘Jolene’ star received her first ever nomination earlier this year, with Lionel Ritchie, Duran Duran and Eminem also receiving nomination for the first time.

Despite being a bona fide badass, she claims that she never expected to be recognized by the R&RHOF, but is a long term lover of rock and roll, and has always secretly wanted to make a rock album.

Imagine a hard rock rendition of this classic!

Speaking to Billboard, she claims she was “absolutely floored” when she heard about her nomination.

She went on to explain that “I’m not expecting that I’ll get in. But if I do, I’ll immediately, next year, have to put out a great rock and roll album, which I’ve wanted to do for years.”

Parton goes on to mention that God might be telling her that it’s finally time to release a rock album, saying that “this may have been just a God-wink for me to go ahead and do that. It’s just nice to be nominated.”

So if she does get inducted into the hallowed halls, this time next year we could be seeing Dolly Parton channelling her inner Doro Pesch, donning her best biker jacket and releasing a great album of rock and roll music. If Parton is correct and this truly is a message from above, then this atheist has three words to say – thank you God.

Devil Horns News: Sting Sells Entire Songwriting Catalogue For Estimated 250 Million Dollars

The deal between Sting and Universal Music covers Sting’s entire songwriting catalogue, including all of his solo work, and the hits by the Police.

In breaking news, Sting has sold his entire songwriting catalog, including classic Police tunes such as ‘Message In A Bottle’ and ‘Walking On The Moon,’ and solo hits such as ‘Englishman In New York’ and ‘Fields Of Gold.’ This is the latest of Universal Music Group’s acquisitions, following on from their recent purchase of Bob Dylan’s songwriting catalogue.

The deal covers both Sting’s royalties as a songwriter and the copyrights for his songs, meaning that Universal will receive all future music publishing income from his work.

The transaction was announced on Thursday Feb 10th by Universal’s music publishing division, and while financial terms were not disclosed, the deal is estimated to be worth at least 250 million dollars, and possibly more.

Because of the fast growth of streaming and low interest rates, over the last couple of years, investors and major music conglomerates have invested billions on dollars into music deals. This growing trend has seen the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Motley Crue & Neil Young all strike deals to sell their catalogues for eight and nine figure sums.

Speaking in a statement, Sting said “It is absolutely essential to me that my career’s body of work have a home where it is valued and respected. Not only to connect with longtime fans in new ways, but also to introduce my songs to new audiences, musicians and generations.”

Universal have certainly acquired a catalogue of classic tunes, and Sting has certainly acquired a pretty penny for it. You could almost say, that with an extra 250 million dollars in his pocked, he’ll feel like he’s ‘Walking On The Moon…’
